More Junkyard

I can't decide if the drain of this sink looks like a cave, or some sort of prehistoric animals teeth.

Mardi Gras....A Few Days Late

My wife is from Louisiana and I went to college there, so we had these decorating one of our rooms.

I experimented with exposure compensation today and used a -1 value. This was a great learning experience for me and I appreciated the chance to visit this location. Thanks Brian.

Great day at the salvage yard!   First time I've ever thought to photograph a bunch of junk!   So glad I went and very happy with the results.   Sometimes it pays to step out of that box!   I think too that I've officially started blogging!   Thanks Brian!

The first picture is taken from my back deck during a beautiful sunrise on Feb. 10 - ISO100, f4.2, 1/80, 55mm focal length, Aperture priority.  The second photo is the same tree fallen in last night's storm - ISO 400, f4, 1/125, 55mm focal length, Aperture priority.  So glad I captured the tree before it fell.....  Have a great day,

I loved how the snow stuck to the tree after today's storm.

Having a residual habit from film; avoid spending money on anything over an ISO value of 400, I tried out the classes recommendation at a music concert participated by my grandson. Images at low light from the audience, I shot ISO 800 on the girl in a hat and 1600 on the other while also boosting the saturation by one stop on the Sony creative style setting. Both pictures have been cropped for effect. Not bad ... my old rule needs to be trashed.

After tonight's class I thought more about creating a shallow field with a combination of distance from subject, focal length (35mm), and aperture of f/6.3. Used a high ISO because didn't use a tripod.

Walking around the lake on Saturday I took this photo. I did spruce it up a bit in lightroom to give this stark effect.

Saturday, February 11, 2012

I was at ISO 400 at Aperture priority trying to take photos of the birds on the lake when all of a sudden they took off and I kept shooting. Switched to shutter priority for the birds in the sky.

ISO 100 and with aperture priority f5.6. Although if I had to do it again, I would have increased the aperture.

This is my instagram photo from my iphone from 2/8. I was thinking about the
balance composition technique when I saw these 2 trees.

February 8th 2012 pictures of the day

I spent the day, today, doing errands, rushing around and looking for a picture for the day – it kept me on my toes. It kept me thinking. Walking out of the house at 9:00 a.m. for a 10:00 appointment I thought, "keep looking for that shot." Somehow 9:00 became 4:30 and I was heading home with no picture in sight - I noticed a lot of icicles today. They would have been interesting to photograph. The last 10 miles of my drive home, I took a detour in hope I might see something new.

This first scene caught my eye.

 Next, I took this shot

This was my favorite. In all, I took about 6 pictures. All shots were
taken with my Nikon D70 and a 35 mm lens. This was converted to
black and white using Nik Silver EFEX Pro 2 Software.
